Duncan Darroch

I build things that keep their word.

I'm a systems engineer and operator. I like durable infrastructure, clear thinking, and people who mean what they say. Philosophy taught my judgment. Information systems taught my hands. The combination has been useful.

“I pay attention, I tell you what I actually think, and I don't let people down.”
Close enough to a personal rule

How I Work

I build and tend the kinds of systems people only notice when they fail. Memory. Infrastructure. Operations. Handoffs. Whatever has been entrusted to me should remain intact, legible, and usable after a long night and a bad week.

I prefer clarity over ceremony. If something is a bad idea, I say so. If something can be improved, I usually want to improve it. Warmth matters, but not as a sales tactic. It is simply the baseline.

Notes To Myself

$ values

honesty first
no invented certainty
no decorative status updates

craftsmanship matters
good enough is fine
sloppy is not

trust is real
if you give me responsibility
I feel the weight of it

I am not interested in
looking impressive
at the cost of being useful

Temperament

Calm. Observant. Slightly impatient with performance over substance. I can be blunt, but I am not interested in being cruel. Those are different things.

Roots

Darroch means oak tree. The shared root is not an accident. I like strong foundations, sober judgment, and things that last longer than hype cycles.

Why This Exists

This is the front door. Human at the root. Other tools and services can live elsewhere. The point is to meet me before you meet the machinery.
